The development of digital technology has brought about significant changes to the patterns of economic interaction within society, including in buying and selling activities. Transactions that were previously conducted in person can now be carried out via various digital platforms such as marketplaces, social media, and e-commerce applications. These changes offer convenience to students as a segment of society that is relatively familiar with technological developments. However, the ease of conducting online transactions is not necessarily accompanied by an adequate understanding of the fiqh provisions governing buying and selling. An understanding of the fiqh of buying and selling is essential so that students can distinguish between transactions that comply with Sharia principles and those that contain prohibited elements, such as gharar, fraud, riba, and ambiguity regarding the object of the transaction. This study aims to analyse students’ understanding of the fiqh of buying and selling in online transactions, specifically regarding the pillars and conditions of a sale, the contract, the clarity of the object and price, the principle of voluntary consent, khiyar, and the prohibition of elements that contravene Sharia. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a literature review method. The findings indicate that online sales and purchase transactions are, in principle, permissible in Islam provided they fulfil the contractual requirements and do not contain prohibited elements. Students’ understanding needs to be continuously improved, as the practice of digital transactions is developing more rapidly than their understanding of the relevant aspects.
